India's Reliance Industries, the largest company in India by market value, is due to close the process for vendor selection for TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) rollout in India within the next two years, as part of its efforts to re-enter the telecom industry, the chinabyte.com reported. Valued at US$1 billion, the TD-LTE network is anticipated to begin operations within next six to nine months, focusing mainly on leading Indian cities. At present, the company is reportedly testing equipment supplied by Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Huawei and will finalize the decision within one to two months. It is not clear though whether the company will select a single vendor or split the contract between multiple partners. The company is projected to invest approximately US$5 billion for the re-entry, including US$1 billion for equipment purchases and US$2.75 billion for the purchase of national spectrum licenses

In June 2010, Reliance already acquired 95% stakes in Infotel Broadband, the only telecom operator to hold wireless broadband spectrum across 22 telecom circles in India, and the company was renamed Reliance Infotel. Later, in November 2010, Reliance unveiled that the company had completed TD-LTE tests with Ericsson and during the trial period, the TD-LTE network was capable of delivering 80Mbps downlink and 20Mbps uplink speeds, according to the same source
